“… it’s not to hide who I am, but to create what I am” – Batman Vol 1 #624
Half of the fun of costuming is learning how to create something out of basically nothing. The end result might not always be what you envisioned originally – but with each project you learn new techniques and strategies to improve on your skills. I started creating alot of my own costume pieces not out of creative determination, but out of the inability to pay others to do it for me. Costume design tends to be extremely expensive. Each piece is essentially a custom piece of artwork – and we all know how out of control pricing on artwork can be! After a few attempts at building the most basic of costume pieces I realized how fun and rewarding it can be to complete a project!
After years of doing Batman costuming I find myself buying alot of the pieces, but I always try to add a little something that I made by hand to the suits to give everything my own custom spin. Having said that I have a couple of costumes that I insist on being completely custom made. This page I will try to keep updated as I go for projects, Big and small, that I have tackled for various Batman related pieces that I have built or modified.
